Beauty Buys: Much love from Jakarta

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I went to Jakarta for a so-called school trip, I joined a competition. I didn't expect to shop as I assumed I won't be able to have as much time as I was given a packed schedule to begin with. But it turns out, I was able to free up so much more time to shop and explore a little bit of Jakarta. Though one of my biggest regret while in Jakarta is to not research any place that is worthwhile visiting other than shopping malls.

So here's the haul that I've bought during the whole trip while I was in Jakarta, believe me, I was very reserved and controlled during this trip as I don't really want to think about all the luggage that I have to bring.

New Look contact lenses - These were cheap quarterly colored contact lenses, I wish I bought more as they are around give or take $8-9 , I tried the one in Playful and it is very comfortable as well! I hope to go to Jakarta again soon to stock up on these as they were quite cheap!

Ardell duo eyebrow brush - This has been in my wishlist for sooo long, well, any duo brushes that has a spoolie and eyebrow liner brush as this is very useful for our eyebrow routine ;)

Masami Shouko 320 Round Synthetic Brush - This is a brush brand that I find to be only selling in Indonesia although it has a Japanese name, I am going to assume this is an Indonesian brand. It sells synthetic brushes for a very affordable price and I bought this for $8-9ish? If I were to know more about their quality, I could have bought more from they line. I'd definitely want to see how their eye brushes are as I find it much more affordable at around $4-5. But.. I didn't buy any :(

Bioderma Micellar Solution - I bought 2 sets of this, it is quite affordable for the price at $21, if only there is no limited budget or baggage, I'd haul more! These are my go-to cleansers for heavy makeups as they clean up so nicely.

Sephora Brightening & Hydrating Foundation - I'm not sure why I bought this as I don't need more foundation, well I just throw out some foundations and BB creams that are more than 3 years old, so I'm pretty much replacing them with this. I will review this as soon as I can wear this out more.

Benefit Cosmetics Set in You go, gals & Feeling Cheeky - Benefit might be one of the most famous brand in the beauty world, they are by no means cheap, so I don't want to be disappointed so instead, I just bought those mini-sets to try out some of their products including the famous porefessional primer. I am also impressed by Benetint, although the texture and color payoff is the same as other red tints available, it has a powdery smell that I really love.

I'll try to post up as much reviews as I can with all the new pictures I've just prepared.

Makeup Review: 17 Super Fine Foundation Powder in Light Beige

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I'm not big into buying foundation powders or setting powders just because I bought a lot of backup for my Silkygirl's foundation powder on which I use as a setting powder or a foundation powder when I don't have the time to use liquid foundation.

This is one of my favorite foundation to use when I'm in a hurry. Although it is kinda lighter than my skintone, I was able to blend it to my skin to make sure the lighter tone doesn't affect my makeup. It has 2 compartments, one for the sponge and one for the powder with mirror.

The powder itself is just creamy to touch. It blends well into your skin. Although it only gives a light/medium coverage, just enough to even out your skintone. Because I don't expect foundation powder to have high coverage, so I think this product went well with me.

As far as I can tell, I do need to retouch after 3 hours, before it gets a little oily. Just to remind you girls, my skintype has changed to normal these days, especially on my T-zone. This would be a lovely thing to repurchase but it is a UK brand, so you can only get it through online. I'd love to buy this in a darker shade.

Make-up Review: Revlon Photoready Foundation in Medium Biege

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

A foundation review! I hardly buy foundation just because I think I have a lot of BB Creams and only just 4-5 foundation, I think. Well, now that I think of it, 4-5 foundations is a lot by any of the non-beauty blogger standard. LOL!

I bought the Photoready foundation after seeing a lot of reviews, well technically I was looking for the Colorstay foundation but there was none in Brunei, I checked most Guardians by the way to look for Colorstay foundations instead I found this.

It has a low SPF which contributes to the name Photoready I guess. Higher SPF equals to higher white exposure to your face, so I usually don't really like to use this during the day because of the lower SPF. I'd usually don this when I have anything going on at night.

I really love this foundation for the fact that it really fits my skintone perfectly and brightens up my skin since my skin, in nature, is quite dull. It has a medium coverage that does not require me to use concealers. If I think the coverage is not up to what I expect, I'd usually put on another layer on the parts that needs covering.

The staying skill is quite impressive too, it usually fades around the 8th hour mark. I'd usually wear this out on night occasions or days I'm bothered to use foundations to school. I think I found a foundation worth repurchasing.

Make-up Review : Match Perfection Foundation in 400 Natural Beige

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I've bought a foundation while I was in Kuala Lumpur,
I was very confident that I will have the Perfect Match with Natural Beige because the next shade seems to be a bit lighter than my  skintone so I didn't even bother to swatch it which is the biggest mistake ever, as this shade is actually four shades darker than my skintone. It really sucks to be me, I have to say that I am not good in color-matching myself with foundations as I only own darker foundations to mix with my BB
Cream so this foundation is just another mixing medium for my
BB creams.

But I did try wearing it alone and just dust it with my 17 Foundation Powder to lighten it up. It does work but it's just still too dark but from my first impression, I can say that
I love this foundation because it does have oil control and was able to stand for 8 hours on its own.

Upon applying, it leaves my skin semi-matte. I really love this foundation, too bad it's so dark. I really loved to sell this foundation though but if there's no buyer
I'll just use this as a mixing medium but nevertheless, I will buy the lighter shade that maybe my matching shade.

Beauty Bought : Giveaway Winning from Sprinklerain!

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I was pretty much surprised with the mail I've received from Ka Sheila of Sprinklerain because I didn't really expect Ka Sheila to put it in DHL Express Mail. I was actually expecting a few mails but I was expecting them to be in small packets because I'm still expecting my laptop accessories.

I really love the wrapping paper for the packaging, it was too cute to actually rip it off, but then I have too, I was too hyper-ed when I saw the name of the sender on the packaging.

Sorry about that I had to cover my name and address for security reason, of course. Hee. I was happy enough that I thought I just received a makeup bag, makeup remover wipes and the Bioderma Water. Then when I opened the makeup bag, I didn't expect to have more makeup in it!

I also love the card that Ka Sheila gave me, I really love the ink pen, I'd love to look for that pinky glitter pen, it reminds me of my childhood, lol.

What I received:

1. 17 Oil-Blotting Paper
2. 17 BB Magic Cream in Translucent
3. 17 Vava Voom Waterproof Volume Mascara
4. 17 Super Fine Foundation Powder in Light Beige
5. 17 Trio Eyeshadow in Black Slate
6. 17 Blusher in Pinky Rose
7. 17 Colour Shine Lipgloss in Pink Fruity
8. Watson's Luscious Cheek & Lip in Pink Cherry
9. 17 Makeup Remover Wipes
10. Bioderma Sensibio H20 Solution Micellaire

I can't believe I receive so much, thanks Ka Sheila, it was very generous of you! As you can see, it's all about Boot's own cosmetic brand, which is 17.

I've been loving all of the products you gave me, especially the mascara and the cheek & lip tint. I loved the combination of the bb cream and foundation, I'll set up reviews on the stuffs I received, I still haven't tried the Makeup Remover Wipes and Bioderma.

Beauty Bought : My first trip to KL

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I had a surprise getaway with my family to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for just a few days at the end of May. I think I went crazy with spending all my money on the trip. I had fun, I will post up a more detailed blogpost on my next post.

Anyways, I've actually missed out a few things on my haul post, where I've actually bought a few blouses, maxi skirts, hijabs and a messenger bag. I'm not sure if my readers are particularly interested in what my fashion sense is, I could tell you now that it's very simple.

While I was in KL, I stayed at Cititel Hotel at Midvalley, the Midvalley Mall itself is very busy mall, I can tell you now that I've actually haven't gone through the mall thoroughly, everytime I went down to the mall, I will still end up be surprised of finding a few stores that I'd like to explore.

I am currently on a quest to find the perfect nail polish for me to wear when I'm on my "holidays", I was so happy to see SASA, Inglot, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Shu Eumera(sp?), Clinique! It was makeup heaven, I tell you!

I've also encountered Daiso, I know Daiso is somewhat a cheap store, I didn't expect all the stuff in the store to be RM5 each! I've made quite a few nasty purchases. I bought those pink pliers and I don't even know what to use it for! LOL! But I guess it would come in handy in the future. I also made a few purchase on the makeups there but I wasn't sure about the quality, so I didn't buy a lot, I wanted to buy some for a swap that I'm currently collecting for, but I was afraid of the quality of the product would do me no good.

I've also bought a cheap Android tablet somewhere in the Lowyat area for the purpose of developing our Android app for our Final Year Project and bought two books at MPH Bookstore that would help me, InshaAllah to get through the project. I think I'd make a review on the Android tablet itself!

In terms of makeup, I was glad that I didn't do much damage, I bought a palette from Elianto on which I will review it soon! I might make a few FOTDs out of it. I also purchased a foundation from Rimmel and I think I regret buying it because it is 3 shades darker and it is quite on the warm side. But anyways, reviews will be up soon.

I also went to Sephora but I just bought a few NYX stuff as when I went to the Benefit's stand, I was unimpressed with all their stuffs there. And the fact that they are very expensive that I didn't go for their products, maybe next time!

Product Empties : March 2013

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

Looking at the picture below, it’s a lot of make-up to throw away. All items are expired or used up or just doesn’t work for me anymore. I was having a clear-out on my make-up and I did not realize that I have so many make-ups that I should’ve thrown out a long time ago. I did change up how I store my make-up and such. It’s more spacey now that I’ve rearranged it.

1.       Essence All Eyes On Me Mascara – This is a nice purple mascara that is not waterproof, it does a nice job of creating volume for my lashes but unfortunately, it has dried out already, I’ve purchased a new mascara already from Essence, but I haven’t touch that yet and won’t touch it until all my mascaras are used up.

2.       Sariayu Foundation and Silkygirl’s Lightening Foundation -  The Sariayu foundation, it’s very easy to finish it as it does a great job of blending and brighten my face easily for everyday or everytime I go out for errands and such. Not something I’d repurchase hurrily. The Silkygirl’s Foundation, I’ve given up on it, it doesn’t make a very good impression of the hundred times I use it. The smell, the longevity, yuck!

3.       Tonymoly’s Milky Lip Tint – A big favourite of mine, I’ve been using it a lot and I’ve finally come to terms that both have already run out :’( I won’t be repurchasing this anytime soon, I have lots more lip tints to finish up!

4.       Silkygirl’s Long-wearing Eyeliner, Funky Eyeliner and Glitter Liner – I don’t know why I never can get on with their eyeliners very well, although their liquid pen liner is the best one so far amongst their eyeliners. I’ve never tried out the funky eyeliner out because they have this stinky smell that I kept putting off on throwing out, the glitter liner was I think an old stock, and the texture isn’t something I’d like to try. The Long-wearing Crayon Eyeliner smudges like crazy and doesn’t even have a great pigmentation!

5.       Safi Balqis Lipstick and Etude House Roll Roll Lipgloss – The Balqis lipstick is a favourite of mine as it is a MLBB shade but unfortunately, it was being discontinued from a long time ago, so I’m so sad to see this one go. The Etude House Lipgloss, the colour is nude, I love to pair it with a red lip tint to make it a little coral-ish but then I’ve actually saw the product has separated and the smell was bad and it’s time to throw it away.

6.       L’Action Dark Circle Corrector and Essence’s Pure Skin Spot Treatment – The only skincares I’m throwing out, I actually have finished up a lot of skincare products but I couldn’t be bother to actually bring it back to my room from the toilet just so I could take pictures with it. The L’Action was A WASTE OF MONEY, it doesn’t work, the gel doesn’t even do anything and the concealer that came with it dries up before I could even test it out. The Essence’s Spot Treatment is one of the few duds I’ve come across from Essence, it dries out too, which is understandable because it has some sort of alcohol in it.
What’s the one product that you kept on using up and repurchase all the time?

Make-up Review : Essence Soft & Natural Make-up Long-lasting Foundation in 04 Light Caramel

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

Another review on Essence's stuff, I still haven't find myself getting on to Catrice yet, but I'll try to purchase something there next time. I'm eyeing on their photo-finish foundation, but I found that there was not much products left from the Catrice stand, hey, who's been over-shopping there? *insert angry face* LOL

So at first, I was planning to repurchase my 16hr Stay All Day foundation, but I decided to just purchase this one as the color is a little bit darker than the one I have. I need a darker color foundation to mix it with my BB Creams as I'm not a big fan of a white/grey cast on my made-up face.

A squeeze tube with a nice nozzle that controls the amount of product you're squeezing.

In the pictures, it does look a little bit on the lighter side, or maybe because my hands are actually a great match for the foundation, I've actually tried this out when I was watching a football match in the evening, I find it to actually be long-lasting, it didn't slide off or smudge me, not that I was sweating as it is a bit windy.

As for texture, this is almost watery and it easily blends into your skin without any problems, I usually use my stippling brush to apply it. This is a great affordable foundation, but the bad this is, it doesn't have SPF, I would've picked up another matching foundation if there were SPF. But I'd definitely repurchase this over and over again, to mix this with my BB Cream.

Make-up Review : Sariayu Foundation in Kuning Langsat

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I'm here with a budget brand from Sariayu, it's an Indonesian makeup brand, I've had this before a few years back, I love the scent and I love the finish on me, so I decided to repurchase it again and with the price B$2.50, it's hardly breaking the bank either.

I bought one in Kuning Langsat, I don't know what's Langsat in English but basically this foundation is actually a very yellow-tone foundation, I've actually forgotten how this foundation actually performed so when I bought this, I was afraid that it might be a little too light for me. But I'm afraid if I buy the Sawo Matang version, it would be a little too dark for me.

As you can see from the swatch, there's not much beige tone in it, it's very yellow all the way. I never really actually know what's my skintone is whether it's yellow-toned, neutral-toned or pink-toned. But I think I'm more of a neutral tone kinda gal, but who knows. LOL.

See, it seemed too light even on my hand as I'm trying to blend it out, it has a watery texture, also a cooling effect and it really blends easily with your fingers, so I hardly use a brush with this.

Well what do you know, it actually blends well with my hand even if my hand is darker than my face. I think this would actually match well with people with neutral-toned skins, not sure of yellow-tones though, but this foundation gives me a brighter and more awake look. It has a sheer coverage, which I don't really mind as although I have a lot of blemishes, I decided that for everyday use, I'd usually wear my concealers on my undereyes only, hardly ever on my blemishes except for when I have special occasions. I'm getting lazier, lol.

But anyways, I really love this foundation but this is great for dry to normal skin as I have oily skin, it only last around 3-4 hours on my T-Zone. So, I'm basically using this for quick errands.

Favorites: January 2013

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

So I decided to do something new, I hardly ever make a favorite monthly post as I hardly rotate with my makeup mainly because I usually stick with the same old things that I used the past months. I still should post what I'm loving this month as now that my main mission for the past few weeks is to finish up my less favorite BB Creams which I'll be putting it on a new post.

This is what I've been reaching for during the month of January, although I was being snobby on my review for MUA's Undressed Palette, but I've now warmed up to it. I've been using Shade 5, a matte shadow which is slightly darker than my skintone, I sometimes use this to contour my nose and also use this as a lid wash. Also with Shade 8 and 10, they are my go-to defining shadows to create neutral smokey effect, but I'd pack on it if I were to go out at night and for shade 9, I like to use it for my crease to create a gradient effect.

For the Essence Multi Action False Lashes, I'd definitely repurchase this as it does give me voluminous and defined lashes, though not sure about lengthening, but I'm not picky with my mascaras, as long as it creates nice lashes for me then it should be fine.

I never thought that I could actually use Essence Gel Eyeliner in London, Baby on my waterline and it doesn't even budge, it was still pigmented at 8pm and I applied it around 6am? So, it became the eyeliner that I've reached for.

For Hare Magic Lipstick (review coming soon), it's been my go-to lipstick ever since I received this. This really rocks, an old-time favorite with the older generations. Also, I'm a big fan of BB Creams but I hate the fact that they're too light for me, so I bought Essence's Soft & Natural Make-up Long-lasting Foundation in Light Caramel which is a little too dark for me and I used this to mix with my BB Creams to match with my skintone.

Tell me what's your current favorite?

Product Empties and Make-up Review : Silkygirl's Two-way Silky Foundation SPF15

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I'm back with a empty product, this is my ONE AND ONLY setting powder, sad for a beauty blogger, I'm not saying this is a great product, but I had 4 refills lying around and I finally go through the second last of the refills. As you can see from the picture below, it's such a clean slate, only because the product broke as it actually hit pan a few weeks ago and I was just finishing it up, so it might have been fragile and made a crumbled mess in my handbag =/

I think I never really review this product before, so I might just hit two birds with one stone. I guess I never really review this as it never occur to me to do it as I use this almost everytime I wear makeup. It's a good product but I never will buy this again as I do need to find something new to replace this, I only have a lot of their refills because there was a sale for the refills 2 years ago.

I bought 3 Tan and 1 Medium, I must say the Tan is a pretty good match to my skin as I find it to be not too dark, just enough. So for the Medium, it's a little light but I can manage with just using a light-hand application with a powder brush.

I found that if you apply this powder with a sponge, it would give you more coverage. Using a powder brush , however does not give you any coverage. This product lasts as long as possible when your face is not oily, as I have a very oily face, I had to reapply the powder for every few hours which isn't such a chore at all as it doesn't go cakey on your face unless if you use with a sponge. Also with reference to the name silky, the texture is very silky.

Will I repurchase again? NO, I want to find something better, maybe Etude House's compact or maybe Essence and Catrice.

Reader's Opinion : Foundation

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

I think it's about time that I open up a new section in this blog to keep things interested as I am on a spending ban and I'm actually doing well on it, I just have a lot of things to actually review too, so I'd definitely still have a lot of things to review and hopefully by the end of the spending ban, I'd still have a lot of things to review. I might even make a tutorial on how I do my eyeshadows, as a lot of my friends have been asking about it. Well, we'll see about that, I'm a big fan of procrastinating, lol.

So anyways, the real reason of this blog post is that, I want to know what kind of foundation that you readers use, I'm more of a big fan of BB Creams and I only own two foundations, Essence's 16hr Foundation and Silkygirl's Liquid Foundation. I love my Essence foundation, a little too dark on me, but I use it to mix with my BB Cream of the day, so that I have more coverage and matches my skintone. I never really try to use just foundation on my face.

So here I am, asking for your recommendations on what foundations that you'd like me to try :D

Want-it Wishlist : Maybelline

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

Here's another Want-it Wishlist for you ladies out there, I haven't really tried anything from Maybelline, I think except for their tube lipgloss which I grow to dislike, not because of the product but because of the heaviness of that gloss just doesn't cut out for me.

But I do want to try their SuperStay Satin Glosses, I can't remember how many shades there are, but I hope there's a coral in their collection. I'm a big fan of lip tints ever since I discovered Tonymoly's Milky Tints so this would be absolutely nice to try if only it's available here, in Brunei.

I've never really read a lot of reviews for Maybelline's foundation and since I hardly own any foundations, it's time that I'd try this, I love the idea of your foundation with a foamy texture. Although a big risk in investing in foundations is color-matching as I am still up to now unsure of what's my skintone shade, but I think it goes towards Golden Beige but a little lighter.

The bouncy blushes has been given good reviews and has lovely shades, enough said.

Maybelline's gel liners are great stuff but the thing is the price has stopped me from purchasing this. I know this would be a good investment, but I just can't stop comparing the price with Baviphat's and Essence's gel liners as theirs are much cheaper for their good quality products

There's currently three colors available for Essence's cream eyeshadows, so I'd love more color like Maybelline's famous Permanent Taupe and Rose Gold.

I don't have a lot of blushes in my collection and I'm about to haul a few blushes from MUA or maybe not, I'm not sure yet of which brand I'm going to haul blushes from in UK, so Maybelline's is another option too.

I have two foundations at home and I want to try more!

It says SuperStay for 24 hours, a lip tint, want to try this too! :D

I never bought mascaras from Brunei's Maybelline as I find it too expensive at $18-20, I'd rather buy a 5 pound Maybelline mascara from UK. Even if I have to wait for a long time for my friend to arrive in Brunei, LOL.

Make-up Routine : Foundation and Concealer

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

So today we're going to do things differently and you actually have the privilege of seeing me with a naked-stark bare face as I give you girls a routine on how I apply my foundation and concealers.

This is pretty much the normal stuff that I do every day.

1. Skin79 Hot Pink BB Cream
2. Skinfood Salmon Dark Circle Concealer
3. Revlon's Color-Correcting Primer
4. Maybelline's Angelfit Liquid Concealer in Natural Beige
5. Essence's 16 Hour Stay All Day Foundation in 30 Matt Sand
6. Silkygirl's Powder Foundation in Tan

So first, I'd apply a good amount of primer on my face. Yeay for my bare face!

Next step: Foundation

\

As the Essence foundation is two shades darker and the Skin79 Hot Pink BB Cream have a light coverage and is two shade lighter, I just mix them up to compliment my skintone.

The Essence foundation is good for when you want a good coverage but with no SPF, it is just useless, I basically add Essence foundation to all my BB Creams application so that the end result will compliment my skintone.

So I've mixed both and dab the product all over my face.

Then I'll just blend it with a foundation brush

OR...

With a Stippling blush, so you can see that acne scars on my left cheek is pretty much covered. I know it seems weird that the result is that, the mixed foundation is still a little on the light side, but believe me, it's a match, the lighting is just playing tricks with me.

Next Step : Applying Concealers

I have two concealers that I use currently, the liquid concealer and the dark circle concealer.

So what I do is, I apply the dark circle concealer all over my undereyes, blending it so you have a nice brightened look. Don't drag, just pat evenly.

And apply my liquid concealer over my acne scar to give more coverage.

It depends on my mood and also time, if I'm stalling my time, I'd dab and pat the concealer with a brush

OR..

If I'm running late, I would dab and pat using my fingers. Mind you, to create a good coverage, I usually pat the concealers so that it won't slide off to blend in with the foundation.

Lastly, I use my powder foundation as a setting powder. Don't worry about it, because this powder foundation does not give big impact on my face, it just sets my makeup nicely. And can you believe that I've hit pan? I love this to bits, I'd never ever buy other setting powders than this, well only because I have two backups for this powder, LOL, and it takes me almost for more than 6 months to hit pan, so it's pretty much long-lasting.

FINAL RESULT

LOL, it looks like I've worn blush and eyeliner, but then, I didn't. Other than the makeup above, I've only used a lipbalm to prepare for my next step of makeup routine.

Product Spotlight : Essence's Stay All Day Foundation and Privia BB Cream

Assalamualaikum pretty ladies!

So what I'm going to talk about today is about my Essence Stay All Day Foundation,  I think my skintone is a bit lighter these days despite the fact that we live in an equatorial climate which basically means summer all-year round.

So however, this, I've been using usually for nights and because of the lighter skintone, this foundation is getting darker on me. I did say that I pretty much won't repurchase this, but I change my mind!

I don't know if you can see it but it does give me an orange cast to my hand if worn alone.

So I decided to pair it with this, Privia's BB Cream! This is a BB cream that is pretty much unloved in my makeup collection, due to the fact that it gives an obvious white cast and too moisturizing for me.

See the white cast? It's too obvious that it doesn't even fade away when oxidized.

So what I do is apply the foundation over the BB Cream.

And.. TADA!!

No more white cast! Well, only at the area where I applied the foundation at least :p
